In 2023, a delegation of Haudenosaunee women traveled to participate in the 16th EMRIP at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The women wanted to make a visual impact while supporting the Haudenosaunee External Relations Committee. Wearing identical ribbon skirts and carrying traditional splint pack baskets, the MOHW were easily identified wherever they walked among Indigenous delegates from around the world. The group had taken a break among the iconic UN flags. I used this break to take this photo. We had to hurry as we were already asked to leave the area, and we were clearly instructed by officials - taking photographs was not allowed.
